Staycation In Furry Style

Lockdown has been ruff. No trip to France for me this year, so I decided to sniff out some dog friendly holiday spots in Ireland.

I wanted to holiday in style, be by the sea and be able to eat in restaurants with my human too.

It took a lot of research, but I found a place that met all my needs!

Barna is just over two hours drive from Dublin.

It's a beautiful seaside spot just outside of Galway.

The hotel is in the town and only 5 minutes walk to the sea.

The Twelve Hotel really does take pet friendly to a whole new level.

Making The Booking

When you book a room in The Twelve Hotel, you first need to let them know that you are traveling with an extra special guest, your furpal.

They have a limited number of pet friendly suites available, so I'd recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment!

You can email them, call them or reach out on social media.

When you book a pet friendly suite you get a huge room with its own lounge. I had my own bed in the lounge complete with TV and water bowl.

And guess what? There is no extra cost to have your furpal stay with you!

The Rules

To be able to stay in the room you need to agree to a few rules.

Only one pet per suite is allowed and there is a height restriction (which wasn't a problem for me) of 30".

Other than that it's the usual rules of needing to be on a lead etc, which was fine by me.

Arrival

Once we arrived, we parked the car in the hotel carpark (free) and we went to check in at reception.

I got the full special treatment.

They showed us to our suite and I found a welcome doggy bag waiting for me in my private doggy lounge (see video above)!

It had treats, a ball, some scoopy-doo bags in it and made me feel very welcome!

I chilled out a bit on my dog bed and had some water and a few treats.

Dining

I was so happy to hear that they offered doggy dining options.

That's when you know a hotel is really dog friendly!

They have a special pet menu and you can order doggy meals to the room if you're having a Netflix and chill out night in your private doggy lounge.

You can also take yourself down to The Pins Bar Bistro within the hotel and order from the same pet menu! You are allowed to eat there, in the restaruant with your humans!

I took my human out for dinner there and I ordered the Bow Wow Tenderloin.

It arrived, freshly cooked and smelling delicious and I couldn't believe my eyes.

I was having trouble getting my teeth in to it (small dog problems) and the waiter kindly offered to cut it up smaller for me!

I was a little panicked when he was taking it away but it came back pretty quickly and I devoured the whole thing. It was probably enough for three of me but I figured, since I was on holidays I was allowed splurge a little.

You can see I enjoyed every bite in the video below!!

Services

There are lots of doggy services available that the hotel make you aware of when you check in.

In the welcome pack I got a list of all the dog friendly places near by, pet groomers, vet clinic and pet shops! I was only there for one night but next time I might book myself in for a grooming experience!

Recap

Pawesome! I loved my night at The Twelve Hotel! I felt so welcome from the minute I booked to the minute I left. It is dog friendly through and through and as a furry guest, you feel just as special (if not more special!) than a human guest!

I will be back, soon!
